Let’s face it: you kicked off 2024 bursting with social media content ideas, and you probably bashed out heaps of posts. But here we are, and maybe you’ve hit a wall—whether it’s a shortage of steam, energy, or fresh ideas (delete as applicable).
If there are gaps in your social media calendar this November, worry not! Plenty is happening in this 'no man's land' between Halloween and Christmas. SAD aside (seasonal affective disorder), there’s still plenty to look forward to this November!
Let there be light this November
Let’s start with Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights on November 1st! It symbolises the spiritual 'victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.' If your business is in the field of finance or accounting, Indian businesses see Diwali as a day to start the new financial year as the event ties with Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.
Guy Fawkes
Remember, remember the 5th of November... Bonfire night celebrations are back with a bang this year (pun intended). Think warm woollen scarves, the smell of the bonfire, and the taste of hotdogs in mustard.
Caffeine kicks
There is a # day for everything. Cappuccino Day is on November 8th. I'm more Americano myself, but it is something many of us can get behind. It is great for cafes (but also HR teams), so promote an offer or run a poll.
Remembrance
Remembrance Day is on Thursday the 11th, and Remembrance Sunday is on the 14th. If your business is holding a two-minute silence and selling poppies for the Royal British Legion, mention it.
Be kind
World Kindness Day is celebrated annually on November 13th as part of the Global Kindness Movement. This day enables us to reflect on one of the most important and unifying human principles: empathy, compassion and kindness. People connect to stories and when a brand can build an emotional attachment with its audience, it’s powerful. It could be a chance to launch a social media competition with entrants tagging the kindest person they know and why. You could ask "What does kindness mean to you?" in under 100 words. Or tell us about the time you experienced a random act of kindness.
Week-long events to inspire content
Talk Money Week: November 4–8, 2024
Green Careers Week: November 4–9, 2024
Anti-Bullying Week: November 11–15, 2024
Men’s Health Awareness Month: November, 2024
Talk Money Week
Talk Money Week is an awareness campaign to encourage you to be more open about money with your friends and family. Something we will probably all have after Labour's first Budget for 14 years! This year’s campaign encourages people across the UK to ‘Do One Thing’ that could help improve their financial wellbeing. This could be as simple as checking the address of a pension or talking to a child about pocket money.
Green Careers Week
One for the education sector, Green Careers Week is supported by The Department of Education, The Careers & Enterprise Company, STEM Learning, the UK Space Agency, and the National Careers Service. The GCW2024 website has pledge cards, planning sheets, certificates and access to the brand-new Green Careers Hub. The Hub has resources, videos, and information.
Anti-Bullying Week
This is a chance for schools and those working in education to unite to address the issue of bullying. And employers, remember bullying happens in workplaces too. Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA) coordinates this national Anti-Bullying Week. The theme for this year is Choose Respect.
Men’s Health Awareness Month
An important one for the health sector and gyms - Men’s Movember. This month-long event focuses on promoting physical and mental wellbeing among men, addressing issues including male cancers, mental health, and suicide prevention.
Embrace the hygge lifestyle
Let's talk hygge. A must for interior designers. Pronounced 'hooga' in Danish, it is a Norweigan concept of cosiness. Hygge at home is all about creating a peaceful, serene and inviting space that you will enjoy and feel calm in. Smell the scented candles, embrace the soft throws, warm socks, and a good read.
Choose hashtag days wisely
Every day is a # day. Don’t jump on every event or worry if you have missed a trending hashtag. Often a client (or boss) will panic that a special day, awareness month or campaign isn’t mentioned in their social media plan, but if it isn’t relevant, leave it out. It is not the quantity that matters; it’s the quality!
